VIVOS Oral Appliances

Vivos® is different from other oral appliances:

Resolves the root cause of sleep-related breathing disorders

Oral appliance therapy presents an entire category of dental treatments. Dentists like Dr. Jeff Danner can prescribe oral appliances to prevent complications from chronic bruxism (teeth grinding) to snoring. As a craniofacial sleep medicine-certified provider, Dr. Danner has extensive and advanced training in diagnosing and treating sleep-related breathing disorders. In fact, VIA Health Group in Canton, Ohio, is strictly focused on treating SRDBs and related conditions. As such, Dr. Danner is also a Vivos®-trained dentist.

The Vivos® Method

Vivos® refers to noninvasive oral appliance technologies. These appliances are designed to treat mild to moderate sleep apnea and snoring. They differ from other oral devices.

For instance, the nightguards and snoreguards mentioned above may be designed to minimize the side effects of bruxism and snoring. These side effects include TMJ-like symptoms, such as chronic headaches and jaw pain. They are also made to prevent complications, such as tooth fractures and other dental damage caused by excessive, persistent teeth grinding and jaw clenching.

Vivos® by Vivos Therapeutics does more than relieve symptoms and protect the teeth, oral cavity, and maxillofacial tissues from damage and other complications. This method actually treats the underlying cause of snoring, sleep apnea, and related conditions. These underlying causes include underdeveloped upper and lower jaws, nasal dysfunction and structural anomalies, and tongue-tie (where the tongue is tethered to the floor of the mouth). These conditions can then lead to other nasal and dental problems, including, as mentioned above, teeth grinding and TMJ disorders (TMJDs), malocclusion and bite problems, nasal obstruction, and poor tongue posture.

From there, such abnormalities promote the development of breathing and sleep disorders. The cycle continues; those with sleep-related breathing disorders are at increased risk of developing:

  • High blood pressure
  • Heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Diabetes; poor blood sugar control
  • ADD/ADHD
  • Daytime and chronic fatigue
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Chronic pain

Once Dr. Danner pinpoints the anatomical source of your symptoms, he will create a one-of-a-kind treatment plan. You may be prescribed a daytime-nighttime appliance (DNA). The Vivos® DNA device, when worn as directed, gradually expands and reshapes the upper jaw. So, your airway remains open, and you can breathe safely and uninterrupted while sleeping. If your lower jaw (mandible) is at the root of your alarming symptoms, an mRNA (mandibular repositioning nighttime appliance) may be fabricated to shift the position of, and reshape, the lower jaw. In doing so, the airway is expanded, remains that way, and you can sleep soundly and breathe consistently when at rest.

In turn, Vivos® appliances present actual resolution and proper treatment of sleep apnea and other breathing conditions. They are also a fast treatment and, unlike other oral devices, do not require lifetime wear. Additionally, Vivos® presents a noninvasive, easy to wear, and easy to care for alternative to CPAP therapy and surgical intervention. CPAP, for instance, is an effective treatment for sleep apnea; however, compliance is low. Many patients never get used to the machine’s noise or wearing a mask while sleeping.
